Brother Rice defeated Orchard Lake St. Mary's in the first Catholic League game of the season on friday.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Michigan - Down by eight entering the fourth quarter, the outlook appeared bleak for the Warriors. Their outside shot was simply not falling and St. Mary's was pulling away. Then Brother Rice caught fire. They opened up the final frame on a 7-0 run before Coach Porritt was forced to call timeout. Their seemingly cushiony lead suddenly evaporated to a one point edge. The Warriors were finally able to get the 3-point shot to fall and their defense really tightened up. After Rice was able to tie the game with about a minute to play, junior Jason Alessi hit a clutch 3-pointer from the right corner in front of his bench. The crowd exploded, and St. Mary's was stunned. In the final seconds, only up by one, Dominic Downs buried two free throws to ice the game for Rice. They now have a solid 4-3 record overall, including a three game win streak. Their next opponent is Catholic Central on the 8th.
